2011 Liechtenstein

Die Flugsaison 2011 hat begonnen. Bei guten thermischen Verhältnissen hoch über dem Falknis mit Blick auf die schneebedeckten Berge und weit nach Nord. The flying season 2011 has begun. With good thermal conditions above the Falknis overlooking the snow-capped mountains and far to the north.

2010 Südafrika / South Africa

Nach zwei Stunden Fahrt von Kapstadt nach Porterville stand ich bei 31 Grad und guten Flugverhälnissen startbereit auf der Startrampe. After two hours drive from Cape Town to Porterville, I stood at 31 degrees and allredy good flight conditions on Start.

Dort machte ich einen guten Flug vom Dasklip Pass aus mit wunderbarer Aussicht über das Farmland und die Olifants Berge vom Westkap. There I made a good flight from Dasklip Pass with magnificent views over the farm land and the Olifants Mountains of western cape.

2010 Südafrika / South Africa
Nun war ich also wieder einmal in Südafrika, in Kapstadt und bei etwas windigen Verhälnissen am Lions Head gestartet. So I arrived in South Africa again, in Cape Town directly. At some windy conditions start from Lions Head.

Es ging über den bekannten Tafelberg, die Apostel und die ganze Stadt. Die Sicht reichte bis Robben Island weit draussen im Meer. Flying over the famouse Table Mountain, the Apostles and the popular city. The view went out far over the sea to Robben Island.

2010 Namibia
Drei Tage hintereinander Fliegen bei sehr guten Flugbedingungen, ich hatte wirklich genug und brauchte einen Ruhetag. Ich war auch nicht Böse weil es die folgenden Tage mehr Wolken und auch stärkere Winde haben sollte. So war Erholung auf der Farm und Besichtigung der Umgebung angesagt. Rückblick: Ich machte drei Dreiecksflüge über 338, 343 und 324 Km in gut 24 Stunden Flugzeit. Zusammen gezäht konnte ich über 1000 Kilometer weit fliegen. Es war wunderbar. Beim zweiten Flug über 343 Km wollte ich die zweite Wende etwas weiter nördlich Richtung Pokweni machen, aber ein Gewitter machte das unmöglich und ein Weltrekord konnte nicht realisiert werden. Ich bin mir sicher; Namibia ist ein Flugparadis, aber Namibia ist noch viel mehr, denn ganz Namibia ist ein grosses Abendteuer!
Three days in a row similar to the good flying conditions, witch meant flying until I really had enough and need a rest day. So I was glad that the remaining two days were partly cloudy and to windy.That was announced relaxing on the base and sighteeing in the area. Review: Triangel flights of 338,343 and 324 Km I could take in about 24 hours of flight time. So I was added together in three flights flown over 1000 Km away and it was huge fun. At the second flight over 343 Km I wanted the second turning point can be pushed further towards Pokweni but the thunderstorm did not make this possible so a world record could not be realized. I am sure; Namibia is truly a Flying Paradise and Namibia is a lot more, Namibia is a great adventure!

2010 Namibia

Ein perfekter Flugtag in Namibia ist: Meteocheck am Morgen und ein sehr gutes Frühstück. Dann die Vorbereitungen für den Start kurz vor oder um ca. 11.00 Uhr. Selbstverständlich dabei 3 Liter Wasser, etwas zu Essen, Sauerstoff für ein paar Stunden und noch viele andere wichtige Sachen. An almost perfect flying day in Namibia is: Meteo ckeck in the morning, about the conditions and a very good breakfast. Ready to start shortly bevor or 11.00 clock. Of course includet 3 liters of wather, light food, oxygen for a few hours and many other importand things.

Microlite Schlepp bei mässigem Wind aber doch schon harter Steppenenthermik. Microlite towing with moderat wind, but even hardy dessert thermals. Hinaus geht’s im Schlepp über die Tiere bis auf ca. 450 Meter über Grund. Over many animals towing in to the sky approximately 450 meters above ground. Sehr gute Aussicht, aber um so Höher mehr Turbulenzen bei Steigwerten von mehr als 6 Meter pro Sekunde. Verry good visibility, but with increasing altidude more turbulent and upgrades with more than 6 meters per second. Dann in einer Höhe von über 5400 Meter über Meer bei gutem Vorankommen sehr gute Sicht nach unten. Then in altidudes of ever 5400 meters over sea leval with very good basic speed wonderful visibility downward. Beste Chance für gute Fotos. Die lebende Steppe. Viele verschiedene Farben mit den wechselnden Schatten über dem Mariental Flugplatz. Best chance for wonderful photos. The Living Dessert. Many beautyful colors and with the changing position of the sun changes in shadows over mariental Airport. Dann über den roten Dünen Richtung Nord nach Bitterwasser. Then over the red dunes right to Nord to Bitterwather. Später am Nachmittag immer mehr Wolken mit sehr starker Thermik. Steigen über 8 Meter pro Sekunde und Rückenwind für ein gutes Vorankommen. During the afternoon more clouds, with verry strong lifts over 8 meters per second an tail wind for good groundspeed. Hoch über dem Hardap Staudamm. High above the Hardap Dam. Später am Nachmittag Gewittertendenz mit leichten Schauern. Aber kein Problem ohne Umweg zu Durchfliegen. By late afternoon, thunderstorms tendency and later light rain showers. This can bo flown througt with out major detour. Gegen Abend immer mehr Gewitter hinter mir. Towards evening, then more thunderstorms far behind me. Es war höchste Zeit zurück zu sein um zu Landen. It was time to be back for landing. Müde und ausgelaugt von den Anstrengungen der harten Thermik und des langen Fluges ganz in der Nähe des Startpunktes gelandet. Tired and exhausted by the efforts of the hard thermal and the long flight landed very near the starting point. 

Überwältigt von den Impressionen des Fluges über unterschiedlichen Landschaften stand ich unter Beobachtung der Bewohner wieder am Boden. Overwhelmed by the impressions of the flight over different landscapes I was under observation of the Residents on the ground again.

2010 Namibia
Nun bin ich also in Namibia. Auf was für einer Farm bin ich angekommen. Alles ist hier für einen super Aufenthalt. Sogar zwei neue Freunde haben mich empfangen. Zudem 38 Grad und sehr gute Wetteraussichten in den nächsten Tagen für weite Flüge. I am arrived at Namibia and wat for a farm. Everything exist for a plesent stay. Also two new friends. 38 degree celsius and alredy good news: Acording to the flight Weather forcasts for the next few days best prospects for good flights.

Now I'm on the road to Namibia and South Africa for flying. I go to the Mount Everest of free flight. I think Namibia that the greatest and the best what it is in the world for Hanggliding-Pilots. This is certainly very hard there, because in the desert at bottom it is 40-42 degrees celsius and have cold at high altitude at about 5500 meters above sea level, of course and Oxygen is needed. This is a hot spot with very hard thermals, very challenging also for record flights and it is very interesting to fly over the desert. I think there I can make some long distance flights and good photos of the different landscape from above. Then I go for a few days to Cape Town. There I will fly if possible, in Porterville on Dasklip Pass and over the famous Table Mountain. There in Cape Town, the landing site is located next to the Green Point Stadium. Perhaps even gets to De Aar. It will be a returning to southern africa for me, because in earlier times (in the years 1974/75) I had worked there for two years. There then began my air sports activities with skydiving near Johannesburg. Since then I have not been back on the Cap. I'm curious what will happen to me.
